As expected, the 15-man shortlist (midfielders category only )for the World Players’ Union, FIFPRO and FIFA World XI 2012 has been dominated by players plying their trade in the La Liga.
The list includes Mesut Ozil who had a consistent and impressive performance for Real Madrid in attacking midfield last season. Iniesta also makes the cut after a great display of football prowess at the Euro 2012.
Others include Xabi Alonoso, Sergio Busquets, Cesc Fabregas, Steven Gerrad, Eden Hazard, Frank Lampard, Luka Modric, Andrea Pirlo, Franck Ribery, David Silva, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Xavi and Yaya Toure completes the list as the only non European player who made the shortlist.
Goalkeepers had been earlier announced this month and they include; Joe Hart, Iker Casillas, Petr Cech, Manuel Nuer and Gianluigi Buffon. The final XI will be announced next year, January 9.
