Police Dismiss $1bn Ransom call for Release of Okonjo-Iweala's Mum

The Delta State Police Command has dismissed reports that the kidnappers of Prof Kanene Okonjo, mother of Finance Minister, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala are seeking a $1billion ransom to release Prof. Okonjo.
The Delta State Police Commisioner, Ikechukwu Aduba said on Monday that the police have not received an official notice on the speculated demands by the kidnappers. Reuters had earier on reported that one of the kidnappers had phoned on Monday to make a monetary demand but could not guarantee if the call was genuine.
The mother of the Finance Minister was kidnapped Sunday afternoon from her home at about 1.30pm by eight gunmen who invaded her husband’s palace at Ogbe-Ofu quarters in Ogwashi-Uku.
We hope issues are sorted out as quickly as possible so that this aged woman can be reunited with her family.
